The game begins with a scene in which several Soviet soldiers board a helicopter, and after a short flight, the helicopter is shot down by the Mujahideen somewhere at an intersection. Your first task in this scenario is to leave the base where you start the game, go to the place where the helicopter was shot down, and find and destroy the bearded unit responsible for the helicopter attack. You have 30 minutes to complete this task. You have at your disposal a large squad of soldiers and two combat vehicles - BVP-2 and BTR-70. In the drop-down lists on the right, you will find the names of subordinate soldiers and the names of vehicles - individual people and vehicles can be selected after clicking on their positions in the lists.
Divide the available soldiers into two smaller teams and load them into combat vehicles. Make sure that the most valuable soldiers (that is, armed with more advanced weapons or equipped with invaluable additional equipment such as a radio station, binoculars or a first aid kit) are inside the vehicles under their armor. You can put them there by first clicking the appropriate order in the orders menu and then on the vehicle. Arrange transportation for the rest of the people in the same way, but this time tell them to take their places on the vehicle's armor. All this can be done - to save time - during an active pause. Then leave the base by driving both cars through the main gate and following the road northwest and then north. BWP-2 moves first, as it is better armed and armored.
When both your cars reach the intersection, stop them. Order the soldiers sitting on the BWP-2 armor to jump off the car (the fastest is by pressing the control button) and take up positions among the nearest rocks, and then quickly hide by pressing the icon. These soldiers, with the support of BWP-2, will eliminate several enemies they spot among the trees on the right and near the wreckage of the transporter on the left. The people in the second of your cars can sit on the armor and watch the shooting for now. After you shoot all the "ghosts" in the area, you need to deal with a few more ghosts on the hill behind the crossing.
