In Croatia, on the Istrian peninsula, there is a small town called Hum. There are 23 people living in this unusual town, and they are all related to each other. There are only two streets in the town. As in other cities, Huma has its own city hall and a post office, from where tourists send postcards to their home addresses.
When you enter the city, you get the impression that you are in a fairy tale. The fact is that from the time when the city of Hum was built to today, it has not changed at all. And the town was built in the 11th century on the ruins of an old fortress and it was called the Khum castle. Then the city belonged to the French kingdom. The Khum deputy was a border checkpoint. Up to the 17th century, Hum was recorded in documents simply as a fortress.
There is a very beautiful legend about the city. It is said that Hum was jokingly built by giants. After they built other cities along the Mirna River, they had the extra stones from which the giants built the city.
This town is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. Despite its small size, Khum is thriving and every day the residents are getting better and better off. This is due to the fact that the town is a resort, and the number of tourists who want to visit the town is constantly growing. The old buildings of the town are very beautiful, they amaze with their scale. The city is surrounded by ancient defensive fortresses, which are one of the most extraordinary sights of the country. There are only two roads in the city - one serves as an entrance, the other leads to the fortresses. There are restaurants, shops and even a small hotel in the city. In a traditional restaurant, alcoholic herbal tincture is served, which is made according to an ancient recipe invented by the Celts.
Once a year, on city Day, residents elect a new mayor. Although, they are not serious about this because most of the population is already in old age and they do not want to take on such responsibility.
There are also sacred temples here - the Church of St. Jerome, built in the 12th century, the Clock Tower, erected in 1552, and the Church of the Ascension of Mary in 1802. An iron gate, built in 1562, blocks the way to the city.
You can get to the city by car. It is most interesting to drive from the nearby town of Roch, located 5 kilometers from Huma. There are monuments along the entire road, each of which is a letter from the Glagolitic alphabet. This road has a corresponding name: "The Alley of the verb".
